A little about Robyn
Perhaps the most
important aspect of myself that I would like to share with you is: I
just LOVE being ME!
I am a New Zealander, married, with two fabulous children.
I spent my childhood in Auckland and Christchurch, climbing trees,
falling off my bicycle, picking wild blackberries with my friends--and
bullying one of our mothers into making blackberry jam. An avid reader
of 'Trixie Belden' books, the first stories I wrote as a child were mystery
stories.
I believe that my passion to write is my life-guidance. A Writer is who
and what I am, and I cannot imagine doing anything else.
Visionary Fiction. Truth and fiction combined, with no way to tell where
one trails off and the other begins. A way to encourage the reader to
think, to ponder, to wonder about their own existence.
In the final days of 2000 my family and I moved to Singapore to live. It
was a move that both excited and scared me, but sometimes you just have
to trust where life's river is taking you.
This was the first time I had lived outside New Zealand, the first time
I had lived in a condo, the first time (since the age of 19 years) that
I had not had my own car. Compared to suburban life in a small New
Zealand city, condo life in Singapore was an interesting experience.
In New Zealand we lived in a house and my attention was focused at
ground level. In Singapore we lived in a condo, on the ninth floor, and
my attention was focused on the sky. Each morning I sat on the balcony,
relishing the peace, the solitude and the balmy Singapore breeze as I
watched the sunrise.
In
December 2004 we moved back to New Zealand. It was, I soon discovered,
not a move back to anything I knew, but a move on to a new life.
I have, over the course of many years, done yoga, studied martial arts
(Kung Fu, Choi Kwang Do, RyuKyu Kempo), attended spiritual growth
classes, taken writing courses, read and studied writing, spirituality,
health and the human mind, and I have followed spiritual teachers. All
of which has been a search for my own Truth, a search to remember Who I
AM.
As confusing as that search has been, it has also been joyous and
fulfilling. It has led me to give my ALL to everything I do, and to give
my ALL to my friendships and relationships. It has led me to remember
that I AM Light and Love.
I am a vegetarian and a tea-totaler (whilst I don't drink alcohol, I am
a serious tea drinker, with a large mug that my children and I refer to
as 'The Sacred Mug'). I adore cheesecake and chocolate, feta cheese,
salads, pizza, breads, and anything my children cook.

That's
me and my Dad, with the Singapore
'forest' in the background.

I
am what I would term an ‘enthusiastic driver’. And this is
the car that was once the greatest love of my life! I sold it
when we needed the money to buy our first house (..that
makes it the dearest house we have ever bought!)

Have
you ever noticed that as we get older we cease to judge other
people by their looks and body shape, but rather by their
personality and their attitudes towards others. Perhaps this is
the best thing about getting older.

Let us make this day, and every day that follows, a celebration
of the people in our life.
To all the people who have touched my life, no matter how
briefly, thank you for what you have imparted.

Favorites
Books:
I recommend all books by Dan Millman, James Redfield, and Neale
Donald Walshe. I also highly recommend you read Oriah Mountain
Dreaming's 'The Invitation' (I have given that book as a gift to a
number of my friends).
I like books that touch my heart and Soul, books that make me think and
further my understanding of the human existence.
Favorite Chefs:
Jamie
Oliver and Nigella Lawson. I love their passion for food, their
enthusiasm, their sense of humor, and their inspiration. They do not
allow their creativity to be reined in by silly rules.
Movies:
The Matrix
The Long Kiss Goodnight
Twister
Dantes Peak
Tomb Raider
Lord of the Rings
Music:
Sarah McLachlan
Norah Jones
Dido
Tina Arena
Aretha Franklin
Shania Twain
(I admit that when it comes to singers I do appear to be quite a
feminist!)
(The
picture at the top of the page was taken after my best buddy, Dawn
Foster, and I had completed our RyuKyu Kempo black belt grading.)
